THE IMPOSSIBLE BRIEF
We needed to make a TVC in only four weeks from concept to delivery. And it needed to work across 6 very different global markets, from India to Russia.
🚫 We couldn’t use a voiceover because we didn’t have time to record in multiple languages.
🚫 We couldn’t commission illustrations with text because we didn’t have time to redraw it in multiple languages.
🚫 We couldn’t use any photography of people because what was OK in one country wasn’t OK in another.
Easy right?
After a lot of back and forth, we were able to create this cute little animation. We got to work with Aardman films (yes Wallace and Gromit!) and the tune was catchy AF so these pros made up for the crazy restrictions.
The creative we developed was then used across in-store and experiential activations for the global launch and all of the separate markets were happy with the outcome. Result!
Bringing Nokia back from the dead
Early on in our advertising careers, two baby-faced creatives were tasked with shooting an entire below the line campaign for Nokia’s biggest global phone launch since the 3310, the Nokia 8 (or as it was codenamed internally for some reason, the Nokia Bang). The shoot had to encapsulate the main feature of the device - that you could take a photo from both the front and rear-facing cameras at once.
On a set of over 100 people we had to simultaneously shoot video and static photography over 2 days - with Aims on static and Sylvs on film playing creative directors.
We had to capture 37 clips to create 8 short films and had a shot list of 74 for the stills. With more being added on the day (obvs).
It was long. It was stressful. We only had one model phone in ‘shiny blue’ that we had to split between both shoots and it kept getting lost. But it was really rewarding and a great experience for two creatives fresh out of university, where shooting a 20 minute film on your iPhone felt like an achievement.
Plus we made the whole process a little more manageable with a themed playlist. Listen away….
